Description
The Falconry School is based in a beautiful part of Gloucestershire countryside allowing for scenic backgrounds and a very natural feel. We are not open to the public for general visitors, and the school is a quiet and informal place.
Your Photography day can EITHER be alongside a small group of others on an Experience Day (which will most often be a weekend day), so you are able to capture images of various raptors flown by other customers and our falconry staff, OR you could have your day as one-to-one. If you would prefer a one-to-one it’s not a problem, but please note it is almost certain to have to be a weekday. However, a one-to-one session will mean you call the shots as to what we can fly for you and what you would like to do in general.
For a whole day sesion, the day begins at 10:00am at which point the kettle should already be on, often a relief for those that have come a long way. We start by introducing you to the team of birds on their perches, identifying the different species and giving a short history of falconry. You are welcome to start with some static photos. After this, we progress to some flying with other species.
At 12:00 we will stop for a one hour lunch break. We suggest a packed lunch, or there are shops and pubs within less than 10 minute’s drive.
After lunch, or if you have a half day booked, at 13.00 we will continue with flying various species, including some of the faster birds. The day finishes at 16:00 approximately.
The birds we use are always changing depending on the time of year, and young new birds we may have. Within our team we have some native British species, as well as some non-native species you may not recognise. Should you have an interest in a particular bird, give us a call and we can tell you what is available.
